A dance teacher in Tioga County has been accused of sexual assault against a young child, according to the Waverly Police Department. Julie Kay Werkheiser of Waverly, was arrested on Nov. 8 following a lengthy investigation into the allegations. Police had a warrant for her arrest from Tioga County Court. Werkheiser was charged with the following, all felonies: Two counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, and two counts of course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree. A grand jury indicted Werkheiser on the charges Friday. The alleged acts took place over a period of three years, from 2004-2007, at the dance studio she owns on Broad Street in the village of Waverly. Werkheiser was sent to the Tioga County Jail with no bail set.
