Army Sgt. Devin Snyder, 20, was killed in Afghanistan earlier this month.
She will be laid to rest on Saturday in Wayland, and members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Kansas have threatened to protest outside her funeral.
The Church has protested at many military funerals over the past few years.
To counter the protest, leaders in Sgt. Snyder’s hometown unanimously passed a measure Wednesday aimed at keeping protestors
away from funerals, particularly military funerals.
The resolution would prevent them from coming within 750 feet of the funeral in the hour before and the hour after the service.
There was not enough time to draft a law, which could punish violators with a fine or jail time. Village leaders hope to draft one in July.
They say the resolution is meant to show support for the Snyder family.
