Senator Fred Akshar is writing to various New York State departments in an attempt to repurpose the former Broome Developmental Center. In a letter addressed to both the State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, and the State Office of General Services, Senator Akshar is encouraging state agencies to convert the former Developmental Center into a treatment facility for those suffering with addiction. Senator Akshar notes that the repurposing would not only bring additional treatment services to the area, but would also make use of a now vacant building.
