There was a solvent spill Wednesday afternoon in the Susquehanna River in Towanda. According to officials, about 100 gallons of solvent was released into the river, a solvent similar to a kerosene-based product. The solvent reportedly presents no risk to the public, as officials say it will be diluted by the time it reaches the nearest water supply location about 25 to 30 miles downriver. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection was on the scene. The solvent was spilled by Global Tungsten & Powders Corporation in Towanda after a power outage at the plant caused a tank containing the solvent to overflow, carrying it from a storm drain into the river.
