Disgraced former New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi was scheduled to be sentenced on Monday for his role in a massive ‘play-for-pay’ scandal involving the state pension fund.
Hevesi did not not show up in court and is reportedly in the hospital with internal bleeding.
He was scheduled to receive up to a four year sentence, based on a plea agreement.
The judge, meanwhile, has stepped out of the case.
Hevesi’s attorney, Bradley Simon asked Judge Lewis Stone to recuse himself from the Hevesi case, as the attorney learned his parents have disinherited him from their wills and Judge Stone is the executor of that will.
The judge angrily denied there was a conflict of interest.
Hevisi, 71 years old, now has an April 4th court date with a new judge.
It’s now unclear when Hevesi, a Democrat, will be sentenced for accepting free travel and campaign contributions in exchange for awarding hundreds of millions of dollars in pension fund money to a certain investment manager. Hevesi, 71, has a court date April 4 with a new judge.
