Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo has announced the details of a piece of legislation she sponsored that will hopefully create a safer environment in New York schools.
The Dignity for All Students Act aims to protect students from bullying, harassment and intimidation. It was passed last year and will go into effect in July of 2012.
The act calls for one employee from each school in the state to attend intensive training programs and bullying incidents to be reported to the state’s Education Department.
Individual districts will be responsible for creating their own training guidelines and anti-bullying programs.
Lupardo says all students should feel safe at their school.
