Union-Endicott High School senior Mark J. Mullock has been nominated as a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Mullock is one of more than 15,000 finalists from across the country.
Only 8,400 National Merit Scholarships will be awarded in 2011, which can be worth as much as $2,500.
Judges select winners based on several criteria, including the finalist’s academic record, information about the school’s curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, the high school official’s written recommendation, information about the student’s activities and leadership and the finalist’s own essay.
The winners will begin receiving notifications of their awards in March.
