Today is Operation Safe Stop Day in New York State, and law enforcement will be on high alert looking for drivers who illegally pass school buses. Law enforcement agencies say they will specifically focus on places that local school officials have noted as “problem areas”, where motorists frequently disregard school buses that are stopped where children are getting on and off. School officials said Operation Safe Stop is an opportunity to call attention to an issue that constantly puts the lives of children at risk. Data shows there about 50,000 violations a day statewide.
