Local leaders and the community gathered on the south lawn of the Tioga County Court House this morning in observance of Veterans Day. Church bells and fire sirens rang throughout Owego as part of this morning’s celebration of our veterans. In addition, Purple Heart recipients and Gold Star Mothers and Families received special recognition as well.
And then at 4pm tonight, the Newark Valley Historical Society is honoring Purple Heart recipients and spouses of deceased veterans from Newark Valley, Berkshire, and Richford. The special ceremony, including a free meal, is being held in the Parish Hall of St. John’s Catholic Church on Rock Street in Newark Valley. You must register to attend by calling the Newark Valley Historical Society at 642-9516.
