The Binghamton City School District is looking for community approval on a number of improvements across the district, including new state of the art security systems. The district announced a proposition for Capital Improvements on Tuesday. The $12 million proposal would be spread throughout the various schools, and include roof repairs, accessibility for the disabled, floor repairs, and the new security system in nearly all schools. All outside doors will be locked and unlocked from the school’s office, and teachers and staff will have key cards to enter the building. People entering the buildings would be identified by a new camera system and then allowed in with a buzzer system. Most of the money for the project will come from state aid, with the district hoping to use about $900,000 from its capital reserves. A public hearing will be held regarding the project on March 10th.
