Sixteen schools across New York state have been selected to participate in a program that pairs private businesses with public schools and colleges, and extends schooling two extra years at no cost to the students. The Pathways in Technology Early College High School Program, or P-TECH, extends school through grade 14, with graduates receiving both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. Binghamton schools are one of the districts in the state that will take part in the program. The Binghamton program will have a partnership with Broome Community College and various businesses and non-profits in the area, including Lockheed Martin. The program first began in New York City in 2011, but $4 million was included in the state budget to expand the program across the state. Binghamton is the only school district participating in the program in the Southern Tier.
