You won’t need a parking permit at Binghamton University for much longer. The college has recently acquired a $45,000 technology that involves license plate recognition to now be linked to online student, faculty and guest accounts at Binghamton University. Officials say it will make the university more efficient. People can go to Binghamton University’s website, purchase a permit, an e-mail confirmation will be sent, and the permit will be active immediately and linked to the driver’s license plate. A new transportation and parking vehicle is already on campus reading license plates for this purpose. Students are liking the idea. They say its quicker and easier to use, and cuts down on the number of parking tickets they receive because its so much easier to keep their parking credentials up to date. BU says the project was funded through the Transportation and Parking Services budget at the school.
