The Owego Free Academy Odyssey of the Mind team finished in 5th place at the state competition, but their creativity earned them a ticket to the world competition in Michigan next month.
At the beginning of the year, Odyssey of the Mind teams are given a long-term problem to solve, and teams try to come up with a creative solution to the problem. While it’s a thrill for the OFA team to be invited to the competition at Michigan State University, raising the funds necessary for the trip is no easy task.
The team needs to have most of the money raised by the middle of this month. Currently they have received private donations, but their first scheduled fundraiser is a spaghetti dinner at the Campville Fire Department this Friday. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Any additional donations can be sent to Owego Free Academy for the Odyssey of the Mind program. If all funds are raised in time, the OFA team will compete at the world competition from May 22nd through May 25th.
