The 2011-2012 Owego Apalachin budget was defeated Tuesday by 30 votes.
A 51 percent majority – or 787 voters – cast “no” ballots, while 49 percent – or 757 – voted in favor of the budget.
The OA Board of Education now has the decision to put a budget up for another public vote, or to implement a contingency (austerity) budget.
In other election day news, three Owego Apalachin board incumbents ran to retain three available seats.
Linda Frisbie received 1,179 votes, Lee Dunham received 1,154 and Becky Goodrich received 1,094 votes.
