The Hardin-Jefferson school district in Sour Lake, Texas, was ravaged by Hurricane Harvey and suffered flood damage much like Owego Elementary in 2011. It turns out that a teacher at Hardin-Jefferson graduated from Owego Free Academy in 1998. Cheryl Edwards King also worked in Owego as a Head Start teacher. She was in the Owego area during the 2011 flooding, and she recently moved to Texas. Robyn Wood, a school psychologist at Owego Elementary School has emerged as the point person for a district-wide effort to help Hardin-Jefferson. They are seeking school supplies, gift cards, and donations; they already have a truck lined up to deliver the supplies to Texas. More details will be shared on the Owego Apalachin district web site.
