Arrest Made In Corning Shots Fired Incident

Officials in the Corning-Paint Post school district lifted the lockout for the schools which was enacted after a report of shots fired near some schools. Corning Police responded Thursday morning to a parking lot after reports of a white male firing a rifle at least twice. Around 2 o’clock they arrested 21-year-old James Hanft Jr. Hanft allegedly shot a .22 caliber rifle at squirrels in the neighborhood. He will be charged with reckless endangerment, a felony. All students and staff at Hugh Gregg, Windfield Elementary, and Northside Blodgett Middle Schools were kept inside with no access to the outside during the lockout.
