Bradford Shanks the man who was allegedly beaten by Oneonta police officers in January was in court on Tuesday for his disposition hearing. Shanks says that Back in January, he says he says he was pulled over by Officer Michael Breen. When Shanks asked to see a supervisor, he says Breen and other officer severely beat him. He’s now planning on suing him and the city for $1 million. Shanks told YNN that he has one goal out of all this, and that is to ensure that it never happens again

He anticipates to formally file the lawsuit within the next 30 to 60 days. Tuesday’s hearing was a procedural hearing in which city attorneys are entitled to ask Shanks questions about the incident under oath before the formal lawsuit is filed.
Lawyers for the city say until a lawsuit is filed, it would be premature to comment on the case. But city officials say the police department has moved forward. The DA is investigating the case, the police chief has resigned and Officer Breen has been placed on leave.
