A Chenango County teen died in an early morning fire yesterday. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office says the 16-year-old was trapped inside his family’s home as it caught fire on State Highway 8 in Mt. Upton around 1:30am. Investigators believe the fire was started by a wood stove that was used to heat the home. Neighbors say it belongs to an Iraq veteran and his pregnant wife. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family.
