The Delaware County emergency services community is mourning the loss of Franklin Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief James Wilber. He died in the line of duty Sunday morning. Delaware County Emergency Services said it appears Wilber suffered a cardiac event while responding to a call. He was taken to Tri-Town Regional Hospital, where he later died. Delaware County Emergency Services said Wilber was a dedicated member of the fire service with more than 40 years of volunteering. He served 39 of those years with the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department. Wilber is survived by his wife, son and sister. Funeral arrangements will be announced once they are finalized. Heart attacks are one of the top causes of firefighter line of duty deaths.
