An electrical problem caused a small explosion at the SUNY Cortland campus Monday afternoon. As of Tuesday morning at 5:30, Clark Residence Hall is still out of power. Power has been restored to the other eight buildings that were affected. All classes are scheduled as normal for Tuesday. The incident stemmed from an underground electrical room for Clark Residence Hall. Officials said that workers were having problems with the electrical system inside the building all day. The explosion caused power outages in nine buildings across campus, including six residence halls, two academic buildings, and one dining facility. Clark Hall was immediately evacuated after reports of the explosion, but no one was injured. Students living in Clark Hall were put up at a local hotel for Monday night. An electrical contractor was on site to determine the problem. Several Monday evening classes were cancelled, and dining halls held extended hours. Flashlights and LEDs were also distributed to students.
