The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office says an Elmira man has been charged in connection with two reported burglaries at a vacant home in the Town of Southport.
Deputies identified the defendant as 21-year-old Eric M. Huntington. The sheriff’s office said road patrol deputies responded to an address on Hazel Street on Aug. 19 and again on Aug. 22 after copper piping and electrical wire were reported stolen from the vacant residence.
The Criminal Investigations Division assisted with both investigations. The sheriff’s office said Huntington went to the agency’s office on Friday, Oct. 2, and was arrested.
He faces two counts of third-degree burglary and one count of second-degree criminal mischief, all Class D felonies. Huntington was processed and arraigned in Southport Town Court.
Authorities said he was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to return to Southport Town Court at a later date. The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
