Erie County has written a letter to Governor Cuomo and other state officials expressing interest in the state funding if Broome County does not proceed with a proposed drug treatment center. The state has allocated $2.7 million plus a facility for an Opioid Treatment Center in the County. On Friday the Broome County Legislature passed on discussing the state funding during the December legislative session, putting the County’s interest in the Center in doubt. Local officials expressed continued support for the Broome County Center. They include Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, Senator Fred Akshar and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo. More than 100 people expressed support for the Broome Center at a hearing on Tuesday.
