Fire broke out at a natural gas compressor station late Tuesday in Brooklyn Township, near Montrose, PA. The Williams Central Compressor Station in the 100 block of Turnpike Road caught fire shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday. The Susquehana County Sheriff’s office originally reported that an explosion preceded the fire. However, Williams officials said there was no explosion.
Eleven Williams employees were on site when the fire occurred in one of the station’s buildings. All of them were able to evacuate safely. It’s not yet known this morning what sparked the fire, although Williams officials say the safety systems at the compressor station acted as intended and prevented more damage.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
