Ithaca Police have taken a man into custody after he threatened several people with a knife early New Years day. Just after 1:30 Wednesday morning, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East State Street for a report of a man making threats with a knife. While on the scene, police arrested 26-year-old Richard Knapp of Ithaca. Knapp still had the knife in his hand when officers arrived, and he complied when he was told to drop the weapon. Witnesses say Knapp approached multiple people at an ATM while they were withdrawing money and demanded cash, but was reportedly unable to get any. He is being charged with attempted robbery in the first degree and menacing in the second degree. He was sent to the Tompkins County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.
