Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $1.6 billion contract for a radar system that is manufactured at four different sites, including Owego. The Q-53 radar system’s final assembly point is the Lockheed Martin plant in Liverpool, near Syracuse. The company says this is the largest contract in the history of that site. They recently delivered the 100th unit of the radar to the US Army. It helps soldiers detect, track, and determine the location of indirect enemy fire. A formal contract announcement will be made today in Liverpool.
