A young man was injured after he jumped off a 60 foot cliff near the Giles Street Dam in Ithaca according to Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies. The cliffs around the Ithaca area become a hot-spot for thrill seekers looking for ways to cool off during the summer months. Around 7 o’clock Wednesday night, deputies and Ithaca firefighters responded to a report of an injury on Giles Street. Police say a 23-year-old man had jumped off the sixty foot cliff into the lower portion of the dam, but missed his landing and wound up injured. The man, whose name has not been released, was airlifted to a regional hospital. The investigation is ongoing. Swimming and cliff jumping in the gorges is prohibited, and violators face citations.
