Owego held their annual Memorial Day ceremony inside the VFW Post 1371 yesterday after rain showers cancelled the annual parade and service at the Tioga County Veterans Memorial. The VFW was full of people who came to pay their respects and listen to the ceremony hosted by Jim Raftis. Retiring Owego Free Academy Band Director Dan Fabricius delivered the keynote address after 28 years leading the school’s band in the parade and annual service. Other events were held around the Southern Tier yesterday, including the 150th annual Memorial Day Parade in Binghamton and a ceremony in Candor’s Maple Grove Cemetery.
