Governor Cuomo is now cracking down on people owing taxes to New York State. On Monday, Cuomo announced a program that would suspend the driver’s license of any person who owes the state more than $10,000 in back taxes. The state Department of Taxation and Finance is sending suspension notices to 16,000 delinquent taxpayers. They will have 60 days to arrange payment. If they don’t, the state Department of Motor Vehicles will send a second letter giving them another 15 days to respond. After that, a delinquent taxpayer’s license will be suspended until the debt is paid.
