Crews responded to a fire that took place early Thursday morning in a garage in Nanticoke. The Glen Aubrey Fire Department was called to the scene at 7 Preston Drive just after 5 o’clock. The garage at the home housed an SUV which had caught fire and spread throughout the garage. The Glen Aubrey fire department called crews from Chenango, Nanticoke, and the Town of Maine to the scene. The garage is attached to the house, but firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within 25 minutes, saving most of the garage and all of the house. A man living at the residence was in the garage during the fire, trying to pull out the SUV, but was unsuccessful. He was able to escape injury-free, and the vehicle had to be towed out of the garage. Broome County Fire Investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
