Law enforcement across New York will be stepping up their efforts to crack down on drivers illegally passing school buses while they are picking up or dropping off students. Operation Safe Stop will call for state troopers, sheriff’s deputies, and local police officers to follow school buses in marked and unmarked patrol vehicles on certain bus routes that have a history of complaints of illegal passing. State Police say all violations will be reported to a central command post so final figures will be available to the police agencies, as well as the public.
