Nascar team owner Richard Childress is facing penalties from NASCAR as a result of Saturday’s post race altercation with Kyle Busch.
Childress is reported to have been upset with Busch over KB’s post race bump to the Childress driver, Joey Coulter, in the truck race.
He went to the garage about a half hour after the race and put KB in a headlock.
Childress threw multiple punches.
Busch was in a no win situation. He woud either have 1) Been beaten up by a 65 year old grandfather or 2) beaten up a 65YO grandfather.
Busch basically turtled and took the beating.
NASCAR has exonerated Busch, who is under probation for an incident with Childress driver Kevin Harvick a few weeks back.
Childress faces ‘territorial’ sanctions for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race.
Likely Childress will be allowed to remain at the track, but his movement will probably be limited to his RV.
He won’t be allowed on pit road.
The NASCAR statement follows:
NASCAR has reviewed the incident involving Richard Childress and Kyle Busch after the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race Saturday at Kansas Speedway. We have met with all parties involved and have determined what happened yesterday is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by NASCAR.
Richard Childress’s actions were not appropriate and fell far short of the standard we expect of owners in this sport. We have met with Childress this morning and made our position very clear to him. Further, we expect he will make it clear to all in his organization to ensure this situation does not escalate any further. We will announce our actions regarding this incident Monday.
Kyle Busch remains on probation with NASCAR and we continue to watch his actions carefully. However, we have determined that Kyle’s involvement in this incident does not violate his probation and no further action is required.
Further NASCAR penalties are expected for Childress on Monday or Tuesday.
