Former New York State assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver will face retrial on corruption charges this coming April. The United States Supreme Court decided not to hear an appeal in the case. Silver was convicted in 2015, but his conviction was overturned by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, due to a Supreme Court decision in a case involving a former governor of Virginia. The Appeals court required the Trial Judge to provide instructions to jurors in a different manner than was provided in the 2015 case.
