State Comptroller: 13% Of School Districts Experiencing Financial Stress

According to numbers from New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, thirteen percent of school districts across the state are experiencing financial stress, including a few in the Southern Tier. Maine-Endwell and Walton were two districts designated as having moderate stress, with Owego-Apalachin, Spencer-Van Etten, and Binghamton deemed as susceptible to fiscal stress. Central New York, Western New York, and the North Country were the regions that experienced the most financial stress in the report. The most severe category of “significant fiscal stress” included no local districts.
