One of the oldest lacrosse rivalries will be on full display tonight when Syracuse travels to Ithaca to take on Cornell. The matchup features two Top-6 programs in the country, with the sixth ranked Big Red hosting the fifth ranked Orange. Cornell just suffered its first loss of the season against Harvard on Saturday, 14-9. At 9-1 the Big Red dropped from #2 in the nation to six. The Orange have been on a break since their victory over Binghamton on Wednesday, a team Cornell also beat earlier in the season. Tonight’s game will be the 99th meeting between the two programs, the fourth-longest rivalry in Division I lacrosse, dating back to 1920. Syracuse owns the all-time record 62 to 35, with 1 tie. However, dating back to 2004, the past 11 meetings between these two schools have been decided by two goals or less, most recently Syracuse’s 13-12 win in the Carrier Dome last year. In that game, an eighth-ranked Orange team rallied to beat a second-ranked Big Red group. Coverage of tonight’s game in Ithaca will start at 6:30, right here on News Radio WEBO.
