The once undefeated Syracuse Orange basketball team suffered its first loss on Wednesday night. The Boston College Eagles traveled to the Carrier Dome and handed the Orange the overtime loss, 62-59. Syracuse was able to secure an 8-point halftime lead, but the Eagles caught fire in the second half, shooting 52 percent, and knocking down 7 three-pointers in the second half alone. After some free-throws gave Boston College the three-point lead, the Orange’s Trevor Cooney had one last-ditch effort to tie things up, but his deep three came up short, and the ball was able to be swatted back across half court as the seconds ticked off the clock. In the loss, Syracuse’s C.J. Fair recorded his second double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman point guard Tyler Ennis finished with 14 points and 6 assists. Now the Wichita State Shockers are the lone undefeated division one team. Next up for the 25-1 Orange is a date at Duke on Saturday night.
