On Friday, the Syracuse Orange football team became champions of the Texas Bowl. Quarterback Terrel Hunt, Texas Bowl Most Valuable Player, led the Orange to victory by scoring a last-minute touchdown on the Orange’s way to the 4-point victory, 21-17. Hunt was 19-for-29 passing for 188 yards, and also had 74 rushing yards and two touchdowns on ten carries. The win marked Syracuse’s 15th ever bowl victory, and kept their postseason winning streak intact at 3 straight bowl wins, the second-longest bowl winning streak in school history. On Saturday it was a return to the basketball court for the Orange, as a pair of two top ten teams and former conferences opponents took to the hardwood at the Dome. Syracuse found itself down to Villanova by 18 points early on in the game, but used a 20-0 run to eventually pick up the victory in impressive fashion, 78-62. Saturday’s crowd was the largest basketball crowd at the Dome this season, at 28,135. It was sophomore Trevor Cooney and his 21 points that helped lead the Orange back from the deficit, and freshman Tyler Ennis chipped in 20 of his own. C.J. Fair also had 17 and Jerami Grant finished with 11. The comeback win marked Syracuse’s 50th consecutive non-conference home win, and was the team’s largest comeback since the Orange came back from being down 18 against DePaul back in January of 2010. Syracuse will close out their non-conference schedule tomorrow when they take on Eastern Michigan, game coverage starts right here on News Radio WEBO at 2:30.
