Today is primary day. In Tioga County, the most watched race is for District Attorney. There are three candidates vying for the Republican nod. They are Irene Graven, Kirk Martin, and Adam Schumacher. Graven is currently serving as the Acting District Attorney since the seat was vacated by the former District Attorney and now Tioga County Judge Gerald Keene. Graven brings 27 years of courtroom experience to the table, as well as the last 14 years as 1st Assistant District Attorney. Kirk Martin has 17 years of legal experience, and formerly served Tioga County for 7 years as 3rd Assistant District Attorney until 2006 when he plead guilty to a DWI and resigned from the post. Martin said it was the best thing that ever happened to him, because it turned his life around. He’s maintained a private practice since then and now has the endorsement of the Tioga County Sheriff and Tioga County Law Enforcement Association. Finally, Adam Schumacher has 24 years of legal experience, 13 of them in the DA’s office. He was bumped up to 1st Assistant DA after Graven jumped up to Acting DA. Schumacher also has a private practice on Front Street in Owego. Voting is open from noon to 9 today at your regular polling place.
