Yesterday’s strong wind gusts brought down trees and knocked out power for thousands of NYSEG customers across the state. At its peak, the National Weather Service says a wind gust of 47 miles per hour was measured at the Greater Binghamton Airport. Power lines were reported down around the Southern Tier, and 600 Broome County and 100 Tioga County NYSEG customers lost power at some point yesterday. The problem was worse in other parts of New York, as wind gusts over 60 miles per hour were reported in Syracuse. NYSEG says a total of 75,000 customers lost power across the state yesterday. All the service was restored last night.
