American auto racing legend, Dan Gurney, passed away Sunday at the age of 86. The New York born Gurney was one of the greatest Formula One drivers of the 1960s and was considered a worthy competitor to Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, and the other greats of the era. Gurney won in Indy Cars, NASCAR, Sports Cars, and Formula One. He was a frequent visitor to Watkins Glen. Following his retirement from racing in 1970, Gurney continued to build race cars. His company was so highly regarded, they also built components for the Space Shuttle.
