Four Tioga County sports teams won Section 4 Championships this weekend.
In football, Peyton Miller ran for 236 yards and five touchdowns to lead Waverly to a 48-26 win over Chenango Valley in the Class B title game. Brendyn Stillman added an interception return for the Wolverines, as they won their first sectional title since 2011. In Class D, Tioga’s Jesse Manuel scored four touchdowns and teammate Adam Zwierlein ran for a game-high 189 yards and two scores as the Tigers took down previously unbeaten Deposit/Hancock 56-28 to win their fifth straight sectional title. In other football sectionals, Newark Valley fell to Chenango Forks, Maine-Endwell defeated Johnson City, and Elmira won a shootout over Binghamton.
In other sports…The Owego volleyball team swept Maine-Endwell to win their fifth straight sectional championship. Kelly Lavender had 12 kills for the Indians while Bella Coleman added 30 assists. The Owego girls swim team won 10 events and secured the sectional championship in their home pool on Saturday. Chelsea Angelus won four individual and two team events for the Indians.
