The Waverly girls basketball team found itself on the wrong side of history being made Monday night. The Elmira girls basketball team notched its first win in program history, defeating Waverly 54-51 in a nonleague game. Since the merging of the athletic programs at Elmira Free Academy and Southside three years ago, the Elmira ladies had gone 41 games without a win. The win for the Express doubled as the first loss of the season for the Lady Wolverines, as Waverly drops to 11-1. Reylyn Schwartzhoff of Waverly led all scorers with 17 points. A tied game at halftime, the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as Elmira outscored Waverly 23-15 for the elusive first victory.
