It was a couple of tight games for some area teams on Wednesday night. The OFA ladies advanced to the STAC final on Friday night with their victory last night over Maine-Endwell. Jill Silvanic scored 19 points as Owego earned the victory, 62-60. Emily Merrill knocked down free throws with less than 40 seconds left to give the Indians the lead for good, after they were down by seven early in the 4th. The win marked the 13th consecutive victory for the Lady Indians, and they now have a date with a 14-3 Horseheads team on Friday at six o’clock at the Binghamton University Events Center.

In the college game, it was one of the best finishes of the year across college hoops, as Syracuse edged Pittsburgh for the win 58-56. As time expired, Freshman guard Tyler Ennis tossed up a deep three to try to give the Orange the lead and the victory, and the running shot was right on the money. The win marked the first time Pittsburgh has lost to a Top 5 team in the Petersen Events Center, where a raucous crowd was on hand to cheer on the 25th ranked Panthers. With the win, Syracuse improves to a perfect 24-0, as they and Wichita State remain the only undefeated teams in men’s Division I basketball.
