The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship will go down to the final weekend of the season with the top three in the points standings separated by just 46 points.
Points leader Denny Hamlin finished 12th in Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500, allowing Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick to both pick up points in the standings. They are 15 and 46 points behind, respectively.
Carl Edwards won yesterday’s race at Phoenix.
The championship will be decided next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
In other NASCAR news, Chemung County native Todd Bodine clinched the points title for the truck series on Friday night.
