The Syracuse football team has 20 new players after Wednesday’s National Signing Day. New head coach Dino Babers and his staff put a priority on linemen, pulling in four offensive and four defensive linemen yesterday along with three new linebackers. The highlight of signing day for the Orange was the commitment of Fort Lauderdale defensive end Jaquwan Nelson, who chose Syracuse over Georgia and Kentucky.
Three local student-athletes made their commitments official Wednesday. Johnson City lineman Adam Korutz and Maine-Endwell athlete Michael Palmer are both on their way to Boston College, while JC quarterback Jake Thompson will play at the University of Albany.
Three Section 4 football champions from last year will be in the same class this season after school enrollment figures were released by the state this week. Section 4’s Class B will now include Maine-Endwell and Chenango Forks, joining 2015 champion Waverly, Owego, Chenango Valley, Norwich, Susquehanna Valley, and Windsor. Dryden will also join Class B this year.
