Nationwide Series driver Michael Annett was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated Sunday morning in Mooresville, North Carolina.
According to the police report, his blood alcohol concentration was 0.32, or four times the legal limit.
Annett crashed his employer’s Toyota Tundra into the back of a car waiting for a red light.
The driver was also charged with failure to reduce speed, texting while driving and resisting a public officer.
Annett released a statement through his employer, Rusty Wallace Racing.
He said he was deeply remorseful for his actions and his extreme lack of judgment.
Rusty Wallace Racing said they were working with Michael to develop a package of sanctions which will address this issue.
Sanctions will include successful completion of an alcohol awareness program, a zero tolerance policy towards alcohol use, a year-long community service program and additional internal team sanctions.
This will be Annett’s first season with Rusty Wallace Racing after two years with Germain Racing.
Annett has a March 18th court date.
