The Newark Valley football team is heading to the program’s first-ever state championship appearance after a 34-14 win over Section 5’s Bishop Kearney on Saturday. The Cardinals trailed 14-13 at halftime, but took control with third quarter touchdowns from Chad Wright, David Crow, and Jake Payne. As a team, the Cardinals rushed for 433 yards, including 159 from Crow, 118 from Brett Stewart and 117 from Wright. Newark Valley will play Section 10’s Ogdensburg Free Academy for the Class C state title at 6pm Friday in the Carrier Dome. Chenango Forks also won on Saturday, defeating Dunkirk 41-8. The Blue Devils are looking for their fourth straight state title and first in Class B.
