Owego’s Micah Marshall knocked away a two point conversion pass and the Indians held on for a 13-12 win over Waverly on Friday in a battle of Tioga County’s two largest schools. With the win, Owego earned the second seed in Section 4’s Class B and the right to host Waverly again this week in the first round of the playoffs.
Waverly scored first on Friday, as Peyton Miller called his own number and scampered in from 22 yards out. The extra point kick was blocked by Nick Hegedus. Owego answered back with a run by Patrick Bilbrey and Logan Neira’s kick was good to give the Indians a 7-6 lead. The Indians ended the first half with an impressive 15-play drive that finished with a short touchdown run by Josh Goodrich. The extra point was blocked and Owego led 13-6 at the break. The Wolverines answered in the fourth quarter with a second touchdown run by Miller with four minutes left. They went for two, and the pass was knocked down by Marshall.
Owego got the ball back and ran out the clock, setting up a rematch this Friday, Oct. 30 at 7pm at OFA. The game will be heard live on WEBO.
