It’s official, the Binghamton Mets will now be the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. The announcement was made by owners of the local AA Mets affiliate at a special ceremony at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School this morning. The winning entry was one of 1,500 submissions by fans and pays homage to the area’s unofficial title as “Carousel Capital of the World.” Nicole of Binghamton submitted the winning name, and will now receive season tickets for life. Hers was one of 1,500 submitted by fans. Photos and a video from today’s ceremony are available on the WEBO Facebook Page. Carousel Silver, Fire Red, and Binghamton Blue make up the club’s new official colors. Check out their new website at www.bingrp.com and follow them on social media. The team store at NYSEG Stadium will be open the rest of this week with new merchandise. Owner John Hughes says the Rumble Ponies will remain a New York Mets affiliate for several years. The team will begin the 2017 season in April.
