Three officials have withdrawn from the Big East Tournament following the controversial end of the St. John’s – Rutgers game Wednesday afternoon.
Big East officials have acknowledged that refs Jim Burr, Tim Higgins and Earl Walton missed two calls, a travel and a player stepping out of bounds, in the final 1.7 seconds of the game.
St. John’s went on to win by a score of 65 to 63.
The conference commissioner says the three refs are a “very dedicated and loyal group of professionals,” but they have voluntarily withdrawn in the best interests of those involved.
