WEBO will be broadcasting the Daytona 500 this afternoon on 1330AM and 107.9FM.
Race coverage begins at Noon.
Today’s race will see a different race strategy than in prior years.
The surface of the track was repaved over the off-season at a cost of $20 million.
Last year’s race had several long delays due to potholes that developed during the race.
The new smooth surface has received rave reviews, but the full field drafting can’t be done anymore.
During the Speedweek races, two car drafts have been the norm, and the drivers are still learning how its done.
Based on Saturday’s results, we are likely to see fewer cars on the lead lay at the end.
In the Nationwide race, there were 12 cars on the lead lap at the checkered flag.
Speeds have been very high.
In early sessions, speeds of 206 mph per lap were achieved.
Nascar reduced the carburetor restrictor plate by 1 sixteenth of an inch to reduce the top speeds during the race.
There’s no clear favorite today.
